Huawei Launched Mate 90 Series
Huawei Launches Mate 90 Series with Homegrown Kirin Chips and HarmonyOS 7 Amid Ongoing Chip Constraints
Huawei Technologies revealed its Mate 90 smart mobile phone sequence on Thursday, leaning strongly on re designed in-house new chips and there Android-free HarmonyOS 7 operating -system to push to the performance forward inspite of U.S. restrictions on advanced and new semiconductors.
The series includes the high standard Mate 90, Mate 90 Pro, Mate 90 Pro Max, a strong Collector’s Edition of the Pro Max series, and the luxury (Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design). Premium models like as the Pro Max are equipped by the Kirin 9050 Pro-system-on-chip, which have Huawei’s “Logic-Folding” architecture engineering. The technique redesigned a chip’s internal system in three dimensions inspite of the conventional flat layout design, enabling denser, strong processing — though it takes more wafers to produce. Lower mobile models use Kirin 9035 (Pro) and Kirin 9030 (standard) series chips.
Huawei claim the top-end Mate 90 Pro models deliver a (31% overall performance) increase over the past Mate 80 generation (launched in November 2025). The company told the Kirin 9050 Pro series achieves high inter-die new bandwidth through the new structure, and it plans to increase Logic Folding chips along future smartphones.
All models run by HarmonyOS 7, which Huawei says now it support more than 450000 apps and services at a time. Design highlights have a refined seamless new look with glossy middle-frame and matte metal rear window, full-body Kunlun Xuanwu architecture engineering on higher models for improving durability, Optical Kunlun mobile Glass on the camera cover for protection, and IP68/IP69 dust and water resistance. Imaging features uses XMAGE True-to-Color Portrait built Camera technology and, on other variants, a modular setup camera option.
Pricing begins at 5,999 yuan for the standard/Less features Mate 90 (12 GB/256 GB) and 6,999 yuan for the Pro model. The another Mate 90 Pro Max with 16 GB memory and 512 GB memory storage is priced at 9,999 yuan which (about $1,491), 2,000 yuan, higher than the or equivalent to Mate 80 model at launch. Higher RS Ultimate rare Design variants range from 12,999 yuan upward.
Huawei consumer business chief (Richard Yu) accepted persistent challenges and Advanced semiconductor quantity remains limited in China and he told reporters, and the same problems affect Huawei’s upcoming AI chips. Rising memory cost have added roughly 200 dollars to the cost of every handset, squeezing margins. “We have to increase cost as well, yet at a very slower pace,” Yu said. China’s advanced chip production still relies on deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) technology remained a longer-term objective for domestic creators.
Huawei did not unveil the foundry producing the Kirin 9050 Pro. Semiconductor Work International Corp (SMIC) is widely believed to produce the chips used in current Mate series and Arise processors, though SMIC did not comment.
The launch derives as Chinese smartphone producers face higher section costs and a softer market competition. Domestic consignments fell 7% year-on-year from January to August, according to IDC, however Huawei’s own shipments rose 13%. Huawei grasps a dominant place in China’s foldable section (about 75% share, per Yu) and observed a sales spike for its Pura X Max model after Apple declared its first foldable, the iPhone Duo.
The Mate 90 series trials whether Huawei can remain
advancing its flagship lineup with architectural innovation and software
program control even as entree to cutting-edge process technology remains limited.
